Adding Alt Text to Images

Task Keyboard Command
Add Alt Text to an Image Ctrl + Alt + Y

You can add images to your document from the Insert menu, or you can copy and paste an image into your document. Once the image has been added, navigate to the image, hold Shift, and press the right or left arrow key to select the image. JAWS will announce, “Image selected”. You can then press Ctrl + Alt + Y to bring up the Alt Text tool. Press Tab to reach the description text field, write your description, then press Esc to return to your document. Your image will still be selected, so use an arrow key to move away from and unselect the image to avoid deleting it.

You can also access the Alt Text tool by opening the context menu (Shift + F10) after selecting an image.
